Words from the Participants

Why have you chosen to participate in the City to Surf event this year?

James Gard

The goal is to complete a half-marathon, and I set out three events for the year to help me achieve it. I've just recently completed the Bunbury 3 Waters 10km and now I am focussing on the City to Surf 12km in August.

Trent Smith

I completed the 2018 City to Surf and felt that 5 years later, it was a good time to do it again. This will be my first City to Surf as a 40+ year old.

Rochelle Dodds

To have something fun and a great fitness goal to work towards.

Nancy Dyer

To be involved in an event that promotes health and fitness, to support other participants and to add a social hype for our centre.

Sallyanne Power

To challenge myself with something I don't usually do.

Vanessa Everett

I haven't trained for a fun run in years but the City to Surf was the first fun run I did at the age of 14. I loved it and can't wait to participate this year.

Lael Gard

My husband, James Gard, has come home often voicing his excitement for the City to Surf event. His enthusiasm has inspired me to want to join in, plus I have done a few runs in the past so I thought this would be a great opportunity.

Herbert Stol

To have a fun goal to stick to.

What will you be doing in preparation for the event?

James Gard

I complete my normal strength days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays and Sundays, I’ve been slowly increasing the kilometres on my runs since the start of the year. I will also be adding a 5km run on Saturday in preparation for the City to Surf.

I will be incorporating lots of carbohydrates, fats and proteins into my diet in the lead up to the event.

Trent Smith

I have been back in training since mid-February. My training includes a mixture of road and static training. Up to 10km comfortably now, just working on overall conditioning.

Rochelle Dodds

I will be aiming to run 4 to 5km two to three times per week. I will also focus on clean eating.

Nancy Dyer

I will increase endurance in my training.

Sallyanne Power

Both strength and running training to ensure I am ready for the event. I will also be eating lots of healthy food.

Vanessa Everett

I have started completing 5km runs, which I will increase over the next few weeks.

Lael Gard

I will adopt a specific meal plan to ensure I meet my macro and micros. I will also follow a training routine to ensure I get some much needed strength and core training, as well as cardio training, in the lead up to the run.

Herbert Stol

I will increase my strength and endurance training and focus on clean eating.

Have you participated in the event in the past?
