After 33 years with the LLC, our superstar team member Lesley McEvoy has announced her retirement.
Lesley has seen many changes in and around the centre over the years, working in various departments including the Creche, Food and Beverage and Multi-Sports, as well as Customer Service and Admin.
Lesley commenced work in 1991, when her youngest child started kindy. Lesley’s neighbour asked her if she would like to work in the Crèche for a couple of hours. Paid cash in hand, $10 per hour, Lesley ended up working five mornings a week.
Lesley was also asked to work in Food and Beverage as an assistant in the afternoons to help out. After a few years, Lesley then became the Food and Beverage Coordinator.
Lesley also ran the Saturday morning Netball competition for a couple of seasons.
By 2005, Lesley was the Crèche Supervisor in the mornings, while still working in the Food and Beverage Department in the afternoons.
Lesley enjoyed her time as Crèche Supervisor, with many fond memories of her time caring for children. Across the 33 years with the LLC, Lesley has worked with multiple generations of local families, with many parents who now have children in the Creche remembering when they were cared for by Lesley. Lesley has also worked with staff that she cared for when they were a child.
Later, Lesley transitioned into a role in Customer Service. At this time, there was no paid training, so Lesley would volunteer her time on the weekends at the centre to learn the role.
Stepping down as Crèche Supervisor in 2020, Lesley continued to work as part of the Customer Service team. At one point, Lesley started every morning at 5.15am Monday to Friday. Lesley is proud to say she has never slept in or missed a shift, but has made quite a few early morning phone calls to staff who have slept in.
The last few years Lesley had taken on quite a few shifts in Admin, which she has also enjoyed.
Lesley recently reflected on her time with the LLC.
'I have worked with four Centre Managers and too many staff to count.'
'The team here has become like my second family and it has been great meeting all the members and customers over the years.'
'I would like to thank the Leschenault Leisure Centre, the Shire of Harvey and the local community for welcoming me as part of the team over the past 33 years. It has been amazing working with generations of families and seeing the centre and the community continue to grow.'
Lesley's last day at the centre will be Tuesday, 27 February 2024. If you see Lesley around the centre, say hi and wish her all the best for her next chapter.
